GET provided the soils explorations, geotechnical engineering studies and construction monitoring of the foundation installations for the Mobile Convention Center. Approximately 65,000 square feet of the structure was constructed over the Mobile River at the Port of Mobile. The soils explorations for the project included 59 land and offshore soil borings and laboratory testing of soils. The offshore portion of the convention center is supported on 334 24-inch pre-stressed concrete piles. The land portion of the structure is supported on 1100 pressure injected footings. GET technicians monitored load tests and the installation of all the foundations for the structures. Portions of the site were pre-loaded to accomplish settlement prior to foundations being installed to eliminate drag loads on the piles.
