GET was responsible for the soils investigation and geotechnical engineering evaluations for the 17,600 square feet training facility at the Fairhope “Sonny Callahan” Airport in Fairhope, Alabama. The facility offers courses in aviation, industrial maintenance and welding and is a cooperative partnership with Coastal Alabama Community College, the Fairhope Airport Authority and the Baldwin County Board of Education.
The structure is a single story pre-engineered type construction with high eave heights to accommodate the lab facilities in the training facility. Geotechnical evaluations included settlement analyses and estimates, bearing capacity analyses and recommendations. Recommendations were made to support the structure on shallow foundations. GET also provided the recommendations required for site preparations as well as for the associated project drive areas and paved parking. GET provided geotechnical engineering support through the construction phase as well as the construction materials testing services.
