Daphne City Parks

City Sports Complex Expansion and Improvements
GET provided the soils explorations, geotechnical engineering studies and construction materials testing for the City Sports Complex on Park Drive for the City of Daphne, Alabama. The project consisted of the development of a 125-acre site for use as a sports complex with the initial phase including the development of approximately 45 acres of the property. The project included the construction of 11 lighted baseball/softball fields, 48 high-mast light poles, two concession buildings, an equipment building, two batting cages as well as associated paved drives and parking areas. The site’s original topography had a sloping/varying terrain since a portion of the site had previously been utilized as a borrow pit. The borrow pit activities left the site widely variable in slope with numerous areas left with some near vertical slopes up to 25 feet in height. The challenges of the site topography required the construction of approximately 1450 linear feet of retaining wall along one side of the development as well as three additional retaining walls varying in length of 125 feet to 290 feet within the park to allow for construction of the fields and roadways. The geotechnical evaluations included all site work recommendations, bearing capacity analyses for structures, retaining wall evaluations, slope stability analyses and pavement recommendations for the required roadways and parking areas. GET provided professional engineering support and construction materials testing services through the construction of the project.
