GET was responsible for the soils exploration, geotechnical investigation and materials engineering and construction testing services for the grade, pave, widening and partial reconstruction of Schillinger Road South in Mobile County, Alabama. The existing asphalt pavement section was 26 feet in width. Most of the existing pavement remained in place with an overlay for a final roadway section width of 60 feet with concrete curb and gutters on each side. The project included all associated evaluations, pavement section analyses, and slope analyses for roadway embankments and back slopes for the approximate 9700 lineal feet of roadway. GET also provided global stability analyses and external bearing capacity evaluations for four retaining walls required for widening of the road. The soils explorations included dynamic cone penetrometer testing for insitu California bearing ratio correlations. GET utilized Alabama Department of Transportation’s methods and procedures to produce the structural number for pavement design for given traffic loading, subgrade soil conditions and pavement material. Pavement recommendations were given for widened areas as well as for overlay areas. During construction, GET provided engineering oversight as well as construction materials testing services of soil, concrete, aggregate and asphalt materials throughout the construction of the project.
